About Micromedics
Micromedics is a medical device manufacturer located in St Paul, MN. The Company was founded in 1982 with the initial objective of developing, manufacturing and marketing products for microsurgery. The Company’s first products were implantable tympanostomy (ear ventilation) tubes. Subsequently, Micromedics has expanded through an aggressive strategy of product development and acquisition. The Company currently manufactures, develops, and markets various proprietary medical products including products for implants and instruments for ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery, products for organizing and protecting surgical instruments, applicators for biomaterials, a device for treating problems associated with Eustachian tube dysfunction and negative pressure in the middle ear and ear protection and ear care products.
Products/Markets Served
Biomaterials Applicators. FibriJet® Biomaterials applicators are marketed to surgery departments in hospitals and clinics and to perfusionists. Micromedics FibriJet applicators consist of specially designed dual-syringe applicators with procedure-specific tips. They are used to apply biomaterials such as fibrin tissue sealant and concentrated plasma gel.
Prescription device. In the fall of 2005 Micromedics introduced the EarPopper™, a new noninvasive, non-drug related prescription device that treats children and adults with such common ear problems as Otitis Media with Effusion, Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, and Negative Ear Pressure caused by rapid elevation changes (airline travel, diving, etc.) The EarPopper relieves negative middle ear pressure and allows any fluids to drain. Designed for treatment in the office with the professional model EP-3000 Pro and continued treatment at home with the EP-2100 Home Version (Rx Only.)
Implants and instruments for otolaryngology. Micromedics’ products for otolaryngology are marketed to hospitals, outpatient clinics and ENT physician’s offices. This product group includes: implantable tympanostomy tubes and disposable blades used in the surgical treatment of chronic ear infections, nasal splints used in rhinoplasty and septoplasty surgery, stents for sinus surgery; surgical burs for ear surgery and septal buttons, a non-surgical method for treating septal perforations. Also included in this product group is the Silverstein MicroWick, a unique and patented method of delivering medications into the ear.
Products for organizing and protecting surgical instruments. Micromedics' Instru-Safe™ products are marketed to central supply departments in hospitals, clinics and the doctor’s office. Unique, patented Instru-Safe cassettes keep surgical instruments organized in sets and protect the instruments during transportation, storage and sterile processing, saving time in surgery and reducing instrument damage. Instru-Safe cassettes improve surgical technique by keeping instruments in best possible working condition, while saving the hospital money by reducing instrument repair and replacement costs. Standard Instru-Safe cassettes are available for most types of surgical instruments including, ENT, Cardiovascular, General, Maxillofacial, Neuro, Ob/Gyn, Ophthalmic, Orthopedic, Plastic, etc. Instru-Safe cassettes may be customized to meet specific requirements. In the same product group, Instru-Zyme Gel Pre-cleaner saves time and improves cleaning of instruments during sterile reprocessing.
Ear protection and ear care products. Through the purchase of Santa Barbara Medco and the Physicians' Choice® product line, Micromedics now offers
ear putty, ear drops, foam ear plugs and ear protection headbands to physicians and consumers. |
